Have Plans For The Weekend?

Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out some great options!

In 1991, Joshua Redman was only 22 years old and a recent Harvard graduate when he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition.

Since then, Redman has recorded 13 albums, including his most recent, “Compass,” which was released in January. Critic Chris May, senior editor of the All About Jazz Web site, calls it his best yet because Redman has learned to loosen up and improvise more.

The Joshua Redman Trio is scheduled to perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in College Park. The center has put a link to Redman’s song “Faraway” on its Web site. The concert takes place in the Dekelboum Concert Hall and tickets are $42, $9 for students. Call 301-405-ARTS.

There are other events planned for this weekend.Art Whino, the gallery at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, has a reception planned for 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday for two shows.
