The Envision Participant Guide provides an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges which may shape the future of Prince George’s County. At the heart of the Participant guide and the Envision initiative in general are six Envision areas – live, work, learn, enjoy, serve, and sustain, which provide a framework to examine the parts of life in the county we hope to impact. Today we begin to examine the ENJOY Envision area, specifically, how we review the area of ENJOY and the assets available to us:
Enjoy: What is your vision for excellence and quality as it relates to our parks, recreation, arts and culture, and natural green spaces?
- Identify what recreational activities and amenities are most important for a high quality of life including places like parks, theatres, museums, and music venues.
- Discuss what arts and culture programs residents and other stakeholders would like to see created or expanded. Explore how art, culture, and entertainment can play a role in shaping our lives and our communities.
- Talk about increasing opportunities for public art, community art projects, and support for artists.
- Identify opportunities for everyday residents (young and old) to take an active role in arts and culture programs and recreational activities. Consider some of these assets, opportunities, and challenges identified through previous public input:
Assets
- Large network of open space and parks, both local and regional.
- An award-winning Department of Parks and Recreation, with a variety of strong programs.
- Historical African-American sites that showcase African-American heritage and attract visitors.
- Diversity of amenities from urban to rural areas.
- Waterways: The Potomac, Patuxent, and Anacostia Rivers.
- Agriculture and horse farm heritage.
- Major recreational attractions such as Redskins Football, Six Flags, Bowie Baysox, and Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.
- Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland.
