Participant Guide: Our School System

The Envision Participant Guide provides an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges which may shape the future of Prince George’s County.

In today’s excerpt, we take a look at our school system:

An improving public school system
The Prince George’s County Public School System enrolls about 130,000 students annually and is the 17th largest school district in the country. In the past six years, overall scores on the Maryland State Assessment tests have improved every year for every grade, an average of ten percent every year in reading and 14 percent every year in math. However, the overall test scores for the county continue to be far below those for neighboring Montgomery County (11 to 42 percent depending on the grade and subject) and that for the State of Maryland (nine to 34 percent depending on the grade and subject).

For much more background on our county, please download and review theEnvision Participant Guide (note: This is a large 2MB PDF file), and look for many more Participant Guide excerpts here at the Envision blog.
