Laurel Museum needs volunteers who will serve as docents and work on special projects. No experience is necessary. Training will be provided. The museum is at 817 Main St., Laurel. Call 301-725-7975.

Riversdale House Museum has openings for several volunteers. Docents who can climb stairs easily are needed to greet visitors and lead tours Fridays and Sundays. A museum shop assistant is needed to help with the shop, ticket sales, light lifting and handling money. An education docent would assist with school, Scout and special needs programs during school hours, Mondays through Thursdays. These docents must be comfortable working with children and able to walk up stairs and stand for a 15-minute tour. A garden volunteer or docent will assist the head gardener with planting, weeding and other duties in the interpretive garden. These volunteers are needed on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and should expect to be outside for a few hours and move about ably. Docents in this position will give tours of the interpretive garden. They will work with house docents, the head gardener and the Kitchen Guild. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for plants, flowers and agriculture is preferred. The Kitchen Guild is seeking a cook for the reproduction dependency kitchen, Sundays from next month through November, and for special events. This person should be enthusiastic about historic foodways and be comfortable speaking with the public and working with fire. Previous experience is not necessary. Training will be provided.
