Participant Guide: Call To Action And New Media

The Envision Participant Guide provides an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges which may shape the future of Prince George’s County.

Call to Action–What Will You Do?

One of the purposes of Envision Prince George’s is to encourage all residents and other stakeholders to take responsibility for improving the county; including taking specific actions toward the vision. At the community forums, participants eagerly responded to a request for their commitment to take action on behalf of Envision Prince George’s. Most people returning the commitment forms showed interest in being involved in more than one way. Nearly 200 people either showed an interest in sharing information with groups in their communities and schools, indicated they would educate family and friends about Prince George’s County, said they would actively engage on the Envision Prince George’s website, and/or planned to help recruit participants for the countywide town meeting.

All of those who made these commitments received follow-up information with specific suggestions of how they could stay involved. They are now considered Envision advocates and receive regular e-mails about the progress of all aspects of the Envision Prince George’s effort.

At today’s town meeting, you will be asked “what are you ready to commit to?” In other words, what do you feel called to do as a result of the vision and goals we commit to? The goal of Envision Prince George’s is to enable action to be taken by thousands of Prince Georgians, in large and small ways, and to carry out and bring to fruition the vision, and the dozens of goals that are a part of achieving the vision.

Web and Social Media Strategy

The Envision Prince George’s on-line strategy has included the creation of an interactive and informative website—www.envisionprincegeorges.org—and

an active outreach strategy through the use of an Envision blog, e-mail campaigns that touch thousands, and outreach through Facebook and Twitter (each of which has more than 250 fans or followers).

  • Online Community Forum

More than 200 people have participated in several online forums since January 2010. The online forums reviewed key themes that emerged from input received in 2009. Participants prioritized a wide range of vision ideas, contributed new ideas of their own, and voted for their favorite ideas in response to the question: “What do you most love about Prince George’s?”

  • Building Envision Constituent Lists

Through vigorous outreach of every type, Envision Prince George’s now has a list of thousands who have actively engaged in the process and more than 20,000 who receive a monthly electronic newsletter.
