People say Martha Connolly embodies the perfect blend of science and business insight, allowing her to champion many prominent causes for biotech development in the state.

“She really gets in there,” said Liz Pettengill, vice president of the Greater Baltimore Committee, which last month presented Connolly with its President’s Award at its Bioscience Awards program, recognizing her 20-plus years as a leader in the state’s bioscience industry.

“There’s not an issue in biotech that she’s not well-versed on,” Pettengill said. “She puts out so much energy to help the industry grow.”

For Connolly, 56, it is all about watching the wave of progress. She has seen the flow of business change from manufacturing to biotech and pharmaceuticals, and recently to renewable energy and environmental projects.
