County Council Passes The Environmental Legislation Package

On July 13 Prince George’s County took a major step towards becoming more environmentally sustainable.  The county council passed the eight bills that comprised the Environmental Legislation Package.  These bills implement the regulatory recommendations of the Countywide Green Infrastructure Plan which is the county’s first-ever functional master plan to protect the environment.  It is also the first comprehensive update of the environmental regulations since 1989.

These bills and the Infrastructure Plan lay out a master plan to preserve the green infrastructure of the county and reflect a desired development pattern.  This green infrastructure includes waterways, wetlands, woodlands, wildlife habitats and other natural areas of countywide significance.  This will help the county preserve, protect and enhance its natural resources for future generations.
