Senior Activity Center Opening Delayed

After waiting more than 10 years, Laurel area senior citizens will have to wait another few months for a new senior center to open. The facility, which was scheduled to open in the spring, is undergoing final inspections for permits. Prince George’s County anticipates the center will open late this summer or early fall. Temple Hills Possible Home To Federal Tenant

The Prince George’s County Planning Board has approved a plan to build a 1.6 million-square-foot office and retail development in Temple Hills that could become the home of a federal tenant. Water And Sewer Bills To Increase 8.5 Percent In July

Beginning in July, water and sewer rates will increase 8.5 percent for customers of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). Prince George’s and Montgomery counties approved the increase along with a $1.19 billion budget for the utility. The increase will affect 1.8 customers living in the two counties. Bowie Addresses Issues Over Development Projects

The Bowie City Council wants to meet with Prince George’s County officials and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission to discuss their lack of influence over land-use decisions in Bowie. Bikes Can Change The World

County Schools Receive Funding For Safe Routes To School

Prince George’s County Schools received a grant from Safe Routes to School (SRTS) totaling $897,000. The money will be used to improve bicycling and walking routes in the county around five schools: Glen Ridge, Oak Crest, Woodridge, Highland Park and Gray elementary schools. Space Incubator May Be Located In Prince George’s

Governor Martin O’Malley wants to start an incubator for space-related businesses in an effort to “unlock the enormous economic and employment potential of Maryland’s space sector.  Maryland is home to several space sector businesses, including the NASA Goddard Space Center located in Prince George’s County.  It is anticipated the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) with direct this effort.Â

Maryland’s First Lady Kicks Off Bullying Awareness Week

Outlet Center Targeted For Prince George’s County In 2013
