A New Prince George’s Hospital: If We Build It, Will They Come?

The Envision Prince George’s Community Action Tean on Transit-Oriented Development and the Coalition for Smarter Growth will host a forum to assess metro station sites and urban designs for a Regional Medical Center in Prince George’s County. The discussion takes place on Wednesday, July 18, 6 p.m. in the CSC Building located near the New Carrollton Metro Station at 7900 Harkins Rd., Lanham, MD, 20760.

Currently 60 percent of Prince George’s County residents leave the county for their healthcare. Between the cost to families leaving the county for their health care needs, the loss of local healthcare jobs, and the economic engine a healthcare hub could provide within the county, officials agree: it’s time to bring a new Regional Medical Center to Prince George’s County. State, county and private healthcare providers are working to bring a new $600 million facility to the county, but where should the medical center be located and how should it be designed? Guest speakers Eric Fischer of Trammell Crow Healthcare and Hugh Campbell of ZGF Architects will discuss the how a well-located hospital center and mixed-use design could not only provide better healthcare, but also deliver a two-for-one economic engine.
