About Envision

The purpose of Envision Prince George’s to help develop and implement a vision for the future of Prince George’s County with a vibrant economy and a high quality of life for all of its residents.  During the fall of 2009 and the winter and spring of 2010 Envision Prince George’s will conduct an unprecedented citizen engagement effort to engage thousands of people in helping to create a countywide vision along with a framework for cooperative action.

Envision Prince George’s is an open and inclusive process that invites anyone who lives or works in the county to look 10 or 20 years in the future and think about what they want Prince George’s County to be like at that time.  Envision Prince George’s will engage all stakeholders, including individuals and groups from across the County as active participants.  Envision participants will have opportunities—through innovative educational activities, interactive community forums, online discussions, and a countywide town meeting—to provide direct input into the direction of the County’s future.

At the end of the public engagement process, Envision Prince George’s will produce a clear action agenda based on the informed priorities of thousands of people across the County.  As part of the initiative, Envision will convene discussions on how the vision and its priorities can be implemented and the leadership that is necessary to ensure the emerging agenda is incorporated into future plans.

Envision Prince George’s is an initiative of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and it will build on the goals and strategies that have emerged from other local planning efforts during the past few years.  M-NCPPC has contracted with AmericaSpeaks, an organization based in Washington, D.C. which specializes in designing and implementing innovative strategies for citizen involvement, to make sure that extraordinary efforts are made to include all voices in this process.

GETTING INVOLVED

At the heart of Envision Prince George’s is the belief that each of us can and must make a difference in the life of our neighborhood, our community and our county.  The quality of life we all experience is really nothing more than the sum total of all of the actions that we take together.  If enough of us do our part and act together we can have a significant impact on the life of our county now and in the decades to come.

Each person who participates in Envision Prince George’s will be encouraged to take specific actions to help create the future we want.  In particular, there are three types of action that everyone can take and many different things that can be done under each of these categories.
