Participant Guide: Work – Approach and Assets
The Envision Participant Guide provides an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges which may shape the future of Prince George’s County. At the heart of the Participant guide and the Envision initiative in general are six Envision areas – live, work, learn, enjoy, serve, and sustain, which provide a framework to examine the parts of life in the county we hope to impact. Today we begin to examine the WORK Envision area, specifically, how we review the area of WORK and the assets available to us:
Work: What is your vision for Prince George’s County as a vibrant economy that benefits all?
- Identify,what new industries we should attract to the county and what existing industries we should expand to meet the needs of a more globalized economy.
- Talk about how to increase the number of high-income jobs in the county.
- Discuss how to more effectively foster entrepreneurship and new small businesses.
- Explore the role of farming and agriculture in the county.
- Determine what skills, education, and training are needed to support these jobs and industries.
Assets
- Available land that is reasonably priced throughout the county.
- New commercial development including National Harbor, Bowie Town Center, The Boulevard at the Capital Centre, Konterra, and others.
- Great locationclose to D.C., Annapolis, and Baltimore.
- Federal agencies and national research centers such as Goddard Space Center, Joint Base Andrews Naval Air Facility Washington, National Agricultural Research Center, and others.
- University of Maryland and its research programs including the M Square research park.
- Bowie State University, Prince George’s Community College, and vocational and technical colleges.
- Access to many transportation options.
- Lots of available land surrounding 15 Metrorail stations, 7 MARC stations, and the New Carrollton Amtrak Station.
