In the “Work” community building area, residents, workers, business owners, farmers and other stakeholders will envision what a creative world-class economy should look like in the future.

• We will identify what new industries we should attract to the county and what existing industries we should expand to meet the needs of a more globalized economy.

• We will talk about how to increase the number of high-income jobs in the county.

• We will discuss how to more effectively foster entrepreneurship and new small businesses.

• We will explore the role of farming in the county.

We will determine what skills, education, and training are needed to support these jobs and industries.

What is your vision in the future for Prince George’s County as a sustainable, vibrant economy?

In the “Learn” community building area, residents, business owners, and other stakeholders will envision what quality education for everybody – our children, young adults, and lifelong learning – should look like over the next 20 years.

• We will work to ensure nurturing learning environments from birth throughout adulthood, including high-quality pre-school learning, superior K-12 school systems (public and private), excellent vocational and technical learning opportunities, and world-class higher education institutions (The University of Maryland, Bowie State University, and Prince George’s Community College).

• We will identify how to equip children and adults with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life, and become help them to become entrepreneurs, run small businesses, and find work in businesses and industries that provide higher income jobs.

• We will discuss what business partnerships, mentorship programs, training programs, and partnerships with faith-based and non-profit organizations can help people further their training and development.

In the “Enjoy” community building area, residents and other stakeholders will envision a high quality of life that goes beyond “Live” “Work,” “Learn,” and “Serve.”  A life that includes spending time with family and friends enjoying such amenities as parks, recreation, arts and culture, and natural green spaces.

• We will identify what recreational activities and amenities are most important for a high quality of life, including places like parks, theatres, museums, and music venues.

• We will explore how people want art, culture, and entertainment to play a role in shaping their lives and their communities.

• We will discuss what arts and culture programs residents and other stakeholders would like to see created or expanded.

• We will talk about increasing opportunities for public art, community art projects, and artists in general.

• We will look to create opportunities for everyday residents (young and old) to take an active role in arts and culture programs and recreational activities.

What is your vision for excellence in the future as it relates to our parks, recreation, arts and culture, and natural green spaces?

In the “Serve” community building area, residents, leaders and other stakeholders will envision how everybody can find a way to serve the county and how residents, leaders and organizations can work together to serve the county more effectively.

• We will look at building greater “social capital” in the county. Social capital refers to the quality and extent of relationships and networks between people and organizations, from block clubs to county-wide associations.

• We will talk about how to strengthen and better utilize our community and faith-based organizations, including churches, foundations, chambers, social service organizations, and other non-profits.

• We will explore how to create sustained public engagement in all aspects of government and decision-making.

• We will examine how to achieve high quality inter-governmental interaction and partnerships around key opportunities and challenges.

• We will identify ways for far more people to volunteer in their community and get involved.

What is your vision for how residents, leaders, and organizations of all types can work together to serve the County more effectively?

In the “Sustain” community building area, residents and other stakeholders will envision how to sustain a higher quality of life for themselves and for future generations, including their children, grandchildren, and new residents.

• We will work to understand how we can maintain and expand the infrastructure that supports our communities – where we live, work, learn, serve, and enjoy – in a sustainable manner. Infrastructure includes all elements of the built environment (including housing, businesses, transportation, and other public facilities) and natural environment (including green infrastructure, water resources, open space, and air quality).

• We will discuss how to handle the pressures of future growth, the challenges of climate change and changing energy costs, and the opportunities for alternative energy sources.

• We will talk about how to best balance the needs to grow and develop as a county while also preserving and sustaining the natural environment and open space.

• We will explore the role of agriculture in our community and the need to maintain access to a healthy and sustainable food supply.

What is your vision for how we sustain our County, for ourselves and for future generations, especially around energy, natural resources, transportation, and development issues?
